SAN ANTONIO – The Boerne Champion boys water polo team captured their fifth straight regional championship after the Chargers defeated Harlan, 21-4, Saturday at the Southwest ISD Aquatics Center for the Region IV-5A title.
The Chargers will play at the state tournament that starts Friday where they have earned two silver and two bronze medals at the previous four state tourneys.
Chargers coach Scott Slay says the goal is always to win gold and feels like this team has a chance.
“Defensively, this is the best crew we’ve had as far as defensive concepts, they’re very solid in that aspect,” he said. “We’re going to take our defense to the semifinal game at state and see how it plays out.”
The state water polo tourney is Friday and Saturday at NEISD’s Davis Natatorium.
