1,000 attendees showed up
Lines started forming 90 minutes early for Saturday’s annual Back to School Resource Rally, as the Boerne Independent School District prepares for the Aug. 11 start of classes.
From backpack giveaways, immunizations and sports physicals to bus schedule signups, the rally July 25 gave parents the resources they need to make it through a new school year, organizers said.
“It’s nice to see our families show up, and for us to be able to give them everything they need,” said Stephanie Bautista, BISD programs coordinator.
An estimated 1,000 parents and their children flowed through the halls of the Boerne ISD administration office.
The school district offered student registration, immunizations, school bus route data, after-school care information, school supply signup and meal-ticket resources.

Flinn Daniel Leonard, a BISD employee and volunteer with LOVE Kendall County Kids, and his wife, Shelly, Love’s executive director, “were up until 1 a.m. the previous two nights, sorting socks and underwear, making sure everything was ready to go for the rally,” Daniel Leonard said.
LOVE Kendall County Kids had dozens of volunteers — including school board trustees Rich Sena and Sarah Faulkenberry — handing out packages of underwear and socks to guardians.
“We hope to be able to fill as many gaps as we can and close the gaps on the disparity between kids, so they can have a successful year,” Leonard said.
Up to 30 community vendors were on hand, supporting parents with information ranging from health insurance to school supplies and camp signups.
Sponsors included LOVE Kendall County Kids, Blessings in a Backpack, Community First, Hill Country Family Services, Fair Oaks Emergency Room and the San Antonio Food Bank.
Boerne ISD also held a job fair, giving interested parties the opportunity to sign up for work and to explore district employment opportunities.
