FAIR OAKS RANCH — Former Councilwoman Laura Koerner announced her candidacy for mayor this week, setting the stage for May elections.
Current Mayor Greg Maxton is term-limited and cannot run again.
Koerner, in addition to having served on the City Council, is a Navy veteran and president of Fair Oaks Ranch’s Municipal Development District.
“I want to continue to serve our neighbors to make sure that the city maintains quality services for our residents and is a responsible steward of taxpayer funds,” she said in a release.
She plans to launch her campaign with a kickoff at 2 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Fair Oaks Plaza, 8000 Fair Oaks Parkway.
Filing for the Fair Oaks Ranch municipal election opens Jan. 13, with election day on May 1.
Koerner so far is the only announced candidate for mayor. A graduate of the United States Naval Academy and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Koerner served as a surface warfare (nuclear) officer onboard USS Mahan and USS Enterprise during her seven years of active duty. In 2020, she was appointed chairwoman of the Texas Veterans Commission and serves as a Blue & Gold Officer, helping local high school students apply to the Naval Academy.
“Our city is blessed with amazing residents, character and tremendous resources. My priority is to protect and enhance our community assets and respect the taxpayers who keep our community strong,” she said about her campaign focus.
Koerner has more than 20 years of experience in project management and engineering. She and her husband, Mike, also a Navy veteran, moved to the city after their military service and made it their home while raising their twin teenage daughters.
