Geneva School of Boerne will hit the road Saturday to open the playoffs and gets a tough draw right out of the gate.
The second-place Eagles play at district champ Dallas Christian on Saturday, 2 p.m. Geneva (9-1) and Dallas Christian (8-2) have both won state championships in their history. Geneva won state in 2019, while the Chargers earned state titles in 21-22-2324 and have 12 total, but Eagles head coach Adam Foren said none of that matters going into Saturday.
“They’re well coached and have a good team, but our focus is on 2026,” he said. “We’ve played in a tough district and that has prepared us well. We’re going to have to play well but we’re battle tested, that’s the reason we scheduled like we did.”
Foren said the Chargers are led by wide receiver Dylan Belt, who wears No. 4. The junior is being recruited by the University of Houston, Rice, UCF and UT-El Paso.
“Their answer is getting the ball to No. 4, they run it well, but it starts and ends with getting the ball to No. 4,” Foren said. “Stopping their No. 1 weapon is our top priority.”
The Eagles have a few weapons of their own and can score. They are led by all-state players Caleb Quitadamo and Shae McNew, while all-state player Reid Aderholt was recently hurt and his status is uncertain for Saturday’s contest.
“We scored 45 points a game for a reason,” said Foren, whose team finished 9-1 this year and noted that their regular season record in 2026 is better than the 2019 state title team that finished the regular season at 6-4 before ending at 10-4.
Foren said it should be a battle by two solid programs that have won a lot over the years.
“This has the feel of a state semifinal or a state championship game, but we’re used to being in these games,” he said. “We won’t be intimidated and they won’t be intimidated. These are the ones you get excited for. They’re a good team and we’re a good team.”
Yes, both are good, but it’s unfortunate they have to meet in the first round, but Foren said that’s not anything he had control over.
“To be the best you want to play the best,” he said. “We can’t worry about seeding.” FIRST-ROUND PLAYOFF GAME Geneva School of Boerne (9-1) plays at Dallas Christian (8-2) on Saturday, 2 p.m.
