Chargers drop Game 1 against Rouse

BUDA – Boerne Champion bounced back from its Game 1 loss to Rouse and defeated the Raiders on Friday at Buda Johnson.

The Chargers (34-7-1) and Raiders (36-5) were tied 4-4 after four innings, but Champion pulled ahead in the fourth with two runs and held on for the 6-4 victory to force a Game 3.

Saturday’s Game 3 will be in Seguin, 2 p.m.

With runners at second and third, Jaedyn Yamaguchi singled to bring in two runs and put the Chargers on top for good by the bottom of the fifth.

Owen Kuhl went 5.1 innings and gave up 3 hits and 4 runs before he was replaced by Parker Davis who threw the final 1.2 innings and picked up the save. Davis held the Raiders hitless and didn’t give up a walk or run.

With a runner at first and one out, Davis induced a double play to end it.

Game 1

Rouse captured Game 1 against Boerne Champion for the early series lead Wednesday at Buda Johnson.

The Raiders tallied 2 runs in the second inning and it was enough to beat the Chargers 2-1.

Champion took the early lead after Cal Isley scored in the first inning on a Jaedyn Yamaguchi hit for the 1-0 lead but Rouse answered with 2 in the second and it stayed there after neither team scored after the second.

The Chargers had the tying run on third base in the top of the seventh but the runner came too far off the bag and was caught in a run down and eventually tagged out to end the game.

Ethan Coleman pitched well enough to win after he only gave up 2 hits and struck out 6. Rouse pitcher Jacob Sainz went all seven innings and scattered 4 hits but picked up the win to stay unbeaten this year at 10-0.

Game 2 is Friday in Buda, 7 p.m., and a third game if needed, will be Saturday in Seguin.
