The Boerne Champion cross country teams were in Round Rock last weekend and got a sneak peak of the course where this year’s state meet will be held in Old Settler’s Park in November.
Champion was at the HOKA McNeil XC Invite and both varsity teams ran in the open division, or Gold race, and placed in the top five after the boys were fourth and the girls were fifth.
While the Champion boys were fifth overall, they were first among the 5A teams entered in that category, while the Lady Chargers were second among the 5A schools.
The Chargers are scheduled to race at the Seguin Meet in Starcke Park on Saturday, site of their upcoming district meet scheduled for the middle of October.
Varsity Boys
The Champion boys competed in the Gold race and finished fourth with 306 points in the field of 35 teams in a field of 279 runners.
Keller won the meet with 99 points, Round Rock placed second at 130 and Flour Mound was third with 157 points.
For the Chargers, Shawn Edwards paced the team after he was 33rd in a time of 16:11, Sebastian Carvallo came in 44th with a 16:21, Brandon Martinez posted a 16:37 for 64th, Noah Moreno finished with a time of 16:44 for 74th and Mason Nelson clocked in at 16:50 for 91st to round out the scoring five.
Abhiram Bhogireddy turned in a 16:59 for 106th and Hector Canales ran a 17:49 for 187th.
Varsity Girls
Champion placed fifth with 256 points in the field of 32 teams and 245 runners.
Highland Park won the Gold race with 91 points, Flour Mound came in second at 98, Keller placed third at 108 and S.A. Churchill was fourth at 217.
Rebecca Bezerra led the Chargers after she was 11th in 18:39, Payton Kidder placed 32nd in 19:07, Emma Radtke posted a 19:39 for 53rd, Abigail Clark finished in 20:10 for 74th and Kaylee Tierney was 86th in 20:20.0 to round out the scoring five.
Luciana Zazueta Ibarra recorded a 20:20.8 for 87th and was one spot behind Tierney, while Abigail Alger was 158th in 21:32.
