Boerne High completed a perfect regular season Friday night with a hard-fought win over Liberty Hill Legacy Ranch, 32-27. Friday’s contest came down to the final play before the Greyhounds claimed the victory.
BHS was trailing at the half, 14-12, but outscored the Wranglers in the second half, 20-13, and scored all 20 points in the third quarter. Boerne only had the ball one time in the final stanza.
After a Boerne punt late in the fourth quarter, Legacy Ranch was trailing 25-20 and took over at their own 18 with 4:36 left and moved the ball deep into BHS territory.
The Wranglers faced a 4th and 5 at the 9 and converted the first down with five seconds left, but were out of timeouts. Legacy Ranch lined up and threw a pass into the end zone that was intercepted by Kole Traylor with no time on the clock to secure the win on the Wranglers’ 19th play of the drive.
Traylor finished with two picks in the game, one of which he returned to the Wranglers 20-yard line that the BHS offense converted for a touchdown.
Boerne has only finished 10-0 in the regular season once before and that was in 2022 when they advanced all the way to the state championship game. Their march to state will start Thursday when they host Brackenridge at BISD Stadium.
Boerne Champion
The Chargers closed out the regular season at Manor and tamed the Mustangs, 49-7.
Champion ends the regular season at 9-1 and is the second place team in their district.
The Chargers will play Friday at Boerne ISD Stadium against either MacArthur or Laredo Nixon to open the 5A-DI playoffs.
Comfort High
Not only did Comfort have to beat Blanco in Friday’s regular-season finale, but the Bobcats had to win by 18 points to even have a chance at the postseason.
The Panthers made sure that didn’t happen and they went on to hand Comfort a 74-29 defeat to end the Bobcat season.
Geneva School of Boerne
The Eagles begin their postseason Saturday afternoon at Dallas Christian to open the first round of the TAPPS playoffs.
