The Boerne Fire Department began investigating a drowning that took place Sunday at Boerne City Lake.
Authorities received a 911 call shortly after 2:30 p.m. reporting that an 80-year-old man had gone underwater and was struggling to stay afloat.
People nearby attempted to assist the man before emergency crews arrived, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
Responding agencies included the Boerne Fire Department Water Rescue Team, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and the Boerne Police Department.
To ensure public safety and allow investigators to work, visitors were asked to leave the area, and the lake remains closed until further notice.
Officials said more information will be released as it becomes available.
