Republicans seek balance
Editor, I’ve watched the back-and-forth on the issue of bias in the coverage of the Boerne Star reporting and find myself laughing at the knee-jerk responses from Democrats you’ve published.
It’s as though none of them even bothered to read Art Humphries’ full article instigating the comments and are reacting to the first couple of paragraphs.
The Democrat responses published seem to profess that someone in the Republican Party is seeking to suppress news on Democrat and progressive socialist activity reporting by the Star. Nothing could be further from the truth.
What Art pointed out, justifiably from my view, is that small groups of radical Democrat and leftist agitators receive far more and lengthier coverage more frequently than Republican, conservative events, which are normally much larger in terms of participants.
Why should an activity that has, say, 100-200 participants be on the front page, much less be covered with numerous photos that appear to be designed to hide the actual number of participants of the event? That’s one of the main points of Art’s column. It remains valid, Democrat protestors notwithstanding.
The truth is — and I know the usual suspects will be outraged — that it is Republicans who are asking for balanced reporting, not Democrats. Their letters call for more coverage and, at a minimum, the status quo.
Reading any of the responses you’ve published, it is Democrats who are talking about censorship. This county is at least 75% conservative. Coverage of left-progressive events should, therefore, not dominate the front pages or the number of articles covered.
That’s all. Perhaps some analysis is in order.
